Tide Pools at Half Moon Bay
WARNING!
The next few pages I do will make you want to jump on a plane with your whole family and come visit me, because the pages I'm making are of my FAVORITE thing to do here.

You have to get up early to be there just as the tide is going out, but it is worth it!
Yes, those are Sea Lions above. Where else can you see and handle this stuff in the wild??
The green thing in the picture above bottom right corner is this green spongey thing. If you touch it with your finger it retracts away from your touch. It was awesome!
Try not to book all of your trips at the same time. We'd like to spend individual time with you!

20th Anniversary
There is NO WAY I am old enough to have been married 20 years! UGH..that is for OLD people!!
*sigh* I'm afraid we don't look like this anymore, so it must be true...we're old.
We're old but still happy. How many people make it to 20yrs. and are still happy?
To celebrate we took a trip to Hawaii! Amy was so sweet and offered us practically free tickets to the Big Island where my brother Ben and his sweet family live. We had such an awesome time.
There is so much to do on that island. We snorkeled almost every day, we saw the sunrise on the tallest mountain and visited an amazing rain forest. Here's to the next 20 years!

This group of friends had a lot to do with Lexi feeling happy here in Danville. She really enjoyed them and they were great to her. This funny group did a comedy Improv night twice a year and she was on the Gold team this year. She's away at college now as I post this, and it already seems so long ago. We miss you Lex!

A New Era
Last week Erik and I entered into a new era. We dropped our oldest child off at college. Lexi will be attending BYUI this fall and Spring (and hopefully beyond that!)I had several friends also saying goodbye to their college age students who were crying and sad etc... Is there something wrong with me that I didn't cry? I don't think so. I got somewhat sentimental the week before I went to get her. I was listening to some music when "Pretty Little Ponies" came on by Kenny Loggins. This song always takes me back about 15 years to when Lexi was 3 years old. I had enrolled her in a creative dance class. She was the youngest in her group and I remember watching her from the side of the stage during the recital. She was so tiny compared to the other girls, but did everything right on cue. I can see her in her white silky slip of a dress, with her long black hair down her back. I had this overwhelming moment of pure love for that girl and I was so proud of her. That got me teary. Thinking about when she was little like that and how fast time has gone. So cliche right? It used to bug me when old ladies would tell me to enjoy my time while they were young because they grow so fast. And here I am taking her to college-now I am the one telling young moms to enjoy the time!

I didn't cry when she went to kindergarten. I was so EXCITED for her! That's exactly how I felt dropping her of at BYUI. I knew she was ready. I knew she'd be OK, more than OK-she was going to LOVE it! I never cried with any of my kids starting kindergarten. I thought maybe I would with Jacob since he's my baby, but again, I was just EXCITED for him! I guess if you have a kid that is shy or somehow not ready for school, then you'd cry. You'd be afraid for them. But she's good. She's going to love love love it.
This is Lexi on her first day of kindergarten. She LOVED her shirt. She wanted to wear it every day. This is also the age she told me she wanted to cut her hair. Sigh...such pretty long black hair...
I guess she had her own opinions even then!

and here she is with her stuff outside the truck cab! Oh, she was SO WORRIED that she had too much stuff!
but it all fit just fine. My mom made her this cute quilt out of Tshirts Lexi wore in High School. She is going to LOVE college life!

Birthday Week
I came across this blog: http://secretsofasupermommy.blogspot.com/. I loved her ideas on birthday week so much that I wanted to do it. Unfortunately (and if you look at her birthday board you'd see what I mean) it was super crafty looking. I am NOT crafty. But I thought to myself, "I am not crafty, but I CAN make a poster on photshop." So I did.
The idea is that you display this poster the week before a birthday at your house. The first line shows whose birthday it is. I took a baby picture of each member of my family and wrote their name on it. I stick it on with velcro at this spot.
The next line is a count down to the birthday. Your child changes the number every day.
The next line I will change next year. The lady from the blog told me not to worry about asking the birthday kid what they want for dinner every night until the big day. Her kids requested chicken nuggets and cereal. My kids requested Steak and homemade pizza. Next year I'll make a new one and omit this spot. But on the back I'll make a spot that gives them the opportunity to plan the menu for the actual day.
The next line shows an activity card to be done, one a day. One is a special FHE night where we talk about the day that child was born and watch a home movie of that day. Another offers a special date with mom and dad. A third they get to choose a family activity to do.
Another tells them to wear the birthday hat for the day.
another tells the child to get the house ready for their birthday including put the birthday pillowcase on,
hang the birthday banner (I just bought this one. You could make one too.)
Put the birthday chair cover on. (Thanks to Carrie Lowe and her magnificent sewing skills.) The child also gets to choose where they sit at the table for the week.
And hang the birthday wreath.
I must admit that making the birthday wreath was super intimidating. Remember that I am NOT crafty. Anything crafty I've ever attempted has turned out like crap. But this was EASY. You just buy a straw wreath, 2 big bags of balloons, u-shaped floral pins and a garland.
Stack balloons alternating back and forth on a u-pin. Stick the pin into the straw and it "poofs" out like a flower. I put these all around and then wrap the garland around. I also put a mini-pic of the child onto a colorful stick to put into the wreath so that people coming to my house will know whose birthday is being celebrated.
The back of the poster is for the actual day of the birthday. You move the baby picture over to this side. This is where next year I will put a section about what they want for Breakfast, lunch and dinner that day.
The birthday week idea has been a huge hit at our house. Maybe I'm the type of mom that has to force myself to do fun things for my kids! I'd change the cooking every night thing, but other than that it is such a fun new tradition. I only wish I'd started years ago when my girls were younger. If you want to try to do this let me know and I can try to send you my files. What do you think?
